Flemish in the North – “Daisy”

/

Another serene delight from Arlington-based act Flemish in the North, “Daisy” weaves caressing guitar twangs and dreamy vocals amidst a calming synth-touched soundscape. An emotive vocal reflection emerges prior to the second minute. “Break me into pieces,” they let out, with the chilling backing textures cohesively guiding into sharp-cutting guitar infusions. The tender guitar work and overall atmospherics converge beautifully for a blissful finale.

The project also impressed with preceding singles “Snow Crocs” and “Jonathan Ames.” The former’s jazzy percussive hints and the latter’s folk-minded direction showed well, as does the jangly and lush contemplative pull of “Daisy.” This trio of tracks show Flemish in the North as having ample tonal versatility, with a shared knack for intriguing melodic constructions. I’m looking forward to whatever’s next.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2023’ Spotify playlist.
