Social Wave – “Better”

/

An emotive single with hazy rock appeal, “Better” comes via the act Social Wave. A steady percussive energy pulses alongside a murky guitar crawl. The initial vocals depict the opening of a relationship, colliding “in mysterious ways.” The bass-fronted bustle here conjures a post-punk influence. The “don’t wanna leave,” uptick grips with its jangly immersion, continuing into a more mournful yearning toward the conclusion.

“It’s been one week since I met you,” the vocals admit in the conclusion, alongside a striving to forget. Even brief relationships can have a strong emotional impact, and “Better” seemingly captures that feeling, amidst a memorably atmospheric rock production with post-punk, pop, and surf flashes.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of June 2023’ Spotify playlist.
