Steak Blake – “Reality Shapes”

//

“Reality Shapes” is the debut single from Steak Blake, a Minneapolis-born and London-based artist. Debonair, conversational vocal feelings and a post-punk rhythmic edge combine with angular guitars for an intriguing sound. Serving as “a nod to comparison culture,” the track enamors with its heady vocal versatility, ranging from the initial suaveness to the shout-y punk-touched conciseness within the “shapes, shapes!” repetition.

“The song speaks to the two dimensional lens we live in, a nod to the shapes and forms we constantly compare ourselves to,” says Blake C. Joshua, the artist behind the project. Aided by the production of Rob Slater (Yard Act, Thank), “Reality Shapes” shows a striking, infectious arsenal with its fluctuating post-punk charm.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of June 2023’ Spotify playlist.
