The final song on Chris Portka‘s album trash, out on August 1st, “let’s go play today” crafts a hypnotic sound with its caressing acoustics, dazed vocals, and cascading percussive effect. Portka’s upcoming album is prevalent in intriguing textures and soundscapes, and “let’s go play today” is enjoyably indicative of such.

“Let it sink down below,” the vocals let out at one point, with the ensuing “now we’re swimming,” enjoined by a reflective vocal layer into the title-touting conclusion. A swell of guitar distortion enters alongside here, showing a warming and nostalgic — “remember recess,” — glow. “let’s go play today” is a compelling listening experience from Chris Portka.
