The 106 – “ocean drive”

/

“ocean drive” is a melodic track released today from The 106. Colorful synths complement soaring vocals, remarking “driving down Ocean Drive is where I want to be.” The band describe the effort as a “love letter” to their hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. “We wanted to capture the small town beach town vibe of our town where you are forced to make your own fun,” they explain.

Stutter-y synth pulses and warming bass subtlety drive into a shimmering acoustical backing. Vocals emerge with seamless enamoring, emitting “one more time around the block; there’s nothing else to do anyway,” and wholly capturing the small-town feeling; there’s a sense of comfort in the everyday mundanity, because it’s home. A guitar-fronted refrain provides a twist past the two-minute turn, excelling into a chirpy guitar jangle with enthusiastic flair. “ocean drive” is bursting with melodic hometown adoration.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2023’ Spotify playlist.
