Betre – “Opulent”

/

A glistening lushness enamors throughout Opulent,” the memorable new single from Betre, a Bangkok-based solo project. Serene vocals, twangy guitars, and glistening touches of keys craft a wholly compelling sound, accompanying themes that draw from childhood nostalgia — particularly “escapism, comfort and nostalgia,” per the artist. A particular lyrical crying-out — “would you let me rewind?” — stirs in particular, reflecting a yearning to return to simpler times.

The track, in particular, is described as “about reminiscing on the fading beauty within an ending relationship.” A metaphor-rich lyrical disposition relays the story of a deteriorating love, stirring amidst a beautiful dream-pop enamoring, inspired by acts like Mazzy Star, Cigarettes After Sex, and Beach House. Fading candles and subdued lights represent the dying flickering of a once-promising relationship, casting a chilling, emotive allure within the hypnotically melodic production.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2023’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
