Moon Date – “Created by Magazine”

//

Detroit-based act Moon Date mesh bright synths and invigorated guitar lines on the catching “Created by Magazine.” This anthemic success marks the project’s debut release, impressively enough. They describe the effort’s lyrics as challenging “the social pressures we all face as a society.”

The opening lyrics — “created by magazine, no more for the natural scene,” — prove effective in relaying the unrealistic standards of media. Combined with today’s tendency for non-stop content consumption, the result is one with ample societal pressure. The intensifying guitar/synth interplay and vocal refrain stir throughout the chorus, furthering that sentiment with hooky charisma. A bass-led bounce leads enjoyably into the following sequences, capping the track off in excitable form.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2023’ Spotify playlist.
