The Derevolutions – “I Love This Music”

/

Boston-based duo The Derevolutions celebrate the vibrant qualities of music-making and listening alike on the epic delight “I Love This Music,” described aptly as “a massive psychedelic collage.” The team of Ana Karina and Brett Boucher lend their perky vocals throughout, traversing from playing Daft Punk and LCD (Soundsystem) on a big TV to seeing the shadow of an alien head in the corner of the room. The latter sequence brings forth a new sequence, touting an eerie, mystique-full rock sound fit for the Halloween season, and culminating in a brass-laden stylishness.

The second half continues the enamoring, strutting a particularly hooky sequence — “samples from the soda box,” — as the sixth minute approaches. Wordless vocal effects and a punchy vocal lead converge alongside delectably twangy guitars, and then into a nostalgic soulful rendition with a title-bearing return. “I Love This Music” is a colorful love-letter to the art from, and expression itself, from this consistently engaging duo.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2023’ Spotify playlist.
