Better Atoms – “Perpetual Motion”

/

Los Angeles-based producer and songwriter Better Atoms delights with the serene “Perpetual Motion,” caressing with a psychedelic pop glow as calming vocal layers, bright synths, and trickling guitars coalesce seamlessly. It represents the title track on Better Atoms’ new EP, with the artist describing the single as “the thesis statement of the project exploring the restless rhythm of modern life and the price we pay for always being in motion.”

Enamoring in both its colorful synth beginnings and elegant piano-laden finale, “Perpetual Motion” begins with a sense of lyrical soul-searching. “Feeling like there’s something wrong,” the vocals let out. “Went searching for an answer.” Perspectives of “modern life” and its demand for “perpetual motion” enthrall, conveying the ongoing feeling of running and searching. The contrast between themes of modern-life haste and lush psych-pop entrancement captivate, with the final minute being particularly dynamic in its evolution from harmonious vocal layers to the piano-set “about to lose control” admission. “Perpetual Motion” is a heartfelt, melodic piece of standout songwriting from Better Atoms.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
