Midnight Cathedral – “Another Life”

/

Los Angeles-based artist Midnight Cathedral presents a serenely gorgeous pull on new track “Another Life,” described as “a reflection on going separate ways with someone you’ve loved and enmeshed your life with.” A dreamy, compelling production from Matt Molnar (Sunflower Bean, High), with drums via Parquet Court collaborator Jason Kelly, bolsters the quality songwriting on display.

The project of Ben Grant, Midnight Cathedral will certainly appeal to fans of lushly understated yet hooky productions in the vein of Wild Nothing and DIIV, among the prominent influences here (alongside a reference to past molders of similar soundscapes, like Echo & the Bunnymen). “Another Life” projects soothing vocals alongside glistening, prickly guitars with illuminating lyrical qualities. A textural glow emerges at mid-point with additional synth layering, adding a nocturnal engrossment to the delectable mix. “Another Life” is a standout from Midnight Cathedral.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Dream-Pop.
