monCk – ‘easy to get lost’

A versatile, time-hopping rock sound compels throughout easy to get lost, the newly released album from monCk, a Barcelona-born artist based in Cologne, Germany. “It’s so easy to get lost in all these different worlds,” the vocals let out aptly on the opening title track, furthered by the “let’s get lost in time,” enticement — representative of a sound that consumes in its ’70 psych-rock, flourishing pop, and post-punk inclinations.

The artist’s musical beginnings trace to the ’80s and ’90s German punk/hardcore scene, and this intertwines beautifully with more contemplative, melodic psych-rock and pop realms. “hippie apocalypse” stands out in the vintage psych-friendly vein, referencing “flowers in your hair,” as trippy keys and steady percussion envelop. The ensuing chorus oozes vintage ’70s pop charm.

Additional highlights include the dark folk-rock expanse of “hello world,” the string-laden eeriness of “free,” and blistering psych-rock finale “intersectionals.” easy to get lost is an enthralling, eclectic showcase from monCk.

“easy to get lost” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2023’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
