The Pulltops – “Make Me Smile”

/

“Make Me Smile” marks the seventh single this year from The Pulltops, who continue a dynamic and successful 2023 — from the driving synth-touched alt-rock of “Wide Awake” to the harmonious Americana spirit within “Seasons Change.” The Milwaukee-based act infuses acoustic guitars and strings for an entirely new sound, comparatively — while also continuing the project’s knack for building into replay-inducing hooks.

“You will always be the one to make me smile,” the vocals convey with adoring impact; with the lyric and emotive inflection, one can’t help but be reminded of the person in their life, that provides an emotional comfort during the toughest times. “You light the darkest days and warm the coldest night,” stirs during more understated guitars and twinkling piano, rousing seamlessly into the anthemic passion of the title-referencing central hook. “Make Me Smile” enamors in its mixture of reflective balladry and outpouring of emotions, making for a success that resonates in its smitten sentiments and accessible production.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2023’ Spotify playlist.
