Morgantown – “The Door”

//

A heartrending single depicting the realization of a relationship’s imminent demise, “The Door” comes via Morgantown, the Los Angeles-based duo of Kendra Celise and Paige Shannon. The first song they wrote together, “The Door” is wholly resonating, featuring an emotive vocal presence alongside trickling acoustics, twangy pedal steel, and lush piano. Dan Kalisher produced the track, and also contributed his multi-instrumentalist talents.

“All these memories playing out like watching history repeating,” the haunting vocals lament, realizing that time is fleeting. “Never thought I’d let you go, but my arms are getting heavy.” Lyrical conveying of a couple coming to grips with a dissolution, with a sense of melancholic amicability, drive into haunting vocal layers at the three-minute turn alongside gorgeous pedal steel. “The Door” is a thorough success from Morgantown.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Folk.
