Nick Marks – “Ride The Dragon (Horatio Luna Remix)”

//

Hazy, heady keys and a galloping funk-forward bass line present an intoxicating sound on “Ride The Dragon (Horatio Luna Remix),” the newest single from New York-based artist Nick Marks. This particular release finds Melbourne-based bassist, composer, and producer Horatio Luna adding their own spin via an impeccable remix, expanding upon the original‘s mesmerizing blend of jazzy dexterity and sense of organic electronic futurism.

Luna’s iteration embraces the electronic spectrum more so, utilizing a funky rhythmic charisma and sporadic key-laden pulses for a sound fit more for the dance floor, rather than the original’s more late-night lounge vibe. The sounds of the Budapest Art Orchestra persist with dazzling character, with string-laden and orchestral flourishes enamoring alongside the intoxicating rhythmic pulse. The three-minute turn is particularly compelling, as flashes of strings and throbbing bass combine for an invigorating drive into the hypnotic finale. This marks another 2023 success for Marks, following previously featured gems like “Between Gigs” and “Asymptomatrix.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Electronic.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
