pearl moth – “A Curtain in the Woods”

//

“A Curtain in the Woods” is a beautifully unsettling success from Italian artist pearl moth. The visceral “let me burrow deeper under your skin,” and imagery of spoilage tout an artful, poetic depiction of a lack of escape — pairing with a Lynchian influence (“behind the curtain,” vocal effects in particular) for a darkly immersive soundscape and thematic pursuit. “A Curtain in the Woods” is a standout, idiosyncratic display in brooding, compelling soundscapes from pearl moth.

It’s noted that the track, which draws from industrial rock and darkwave influence, was “born from the many thoughts sparked by Lynch’s Twin Peaks.” The artist continues: “This song reflects on images/icons and our ill-disguised obsession with them.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2023’ Spotify playlist.
