Electric Jane – “Concept: Reality”

/

“Concept: Reality” is a melodic piece of alt-pop/rock from Canadian band Electric Jane, formed in Victoria, BC. Piano-set balladry expands quickly into a rock-friendly vigor, as concise guitar swipes traverses into the opening “it makes no sense to me,” vocal.

References to reality television point to a quest for self-meaning and lofty questions regarding existence, fitted into a modern spin. The culminating hook — “is it all just fun and games?” — conjures references to simulations and games apparent in life/reality, shifting into an invigorating guitar emphasis thereafter. “Concept: Reality” is a heady, hooky success from Electric Jane, with the Truman Show references proving apt!

Electric Jane elaborate further on the track’s themes: “This song is the question we all have when it comes to the reasoning for our presence on this giant rock floating in space amongst an infinite amount of other rocks and unfathomable things. Why are we here? Does it mean anything? And who’s watching?”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
