Baula – “mercury in retrograde”

/

“mercury in retrograde” is a stylishly dark rock production from Baula, the Swedish duo of Karolina Thunberg and Ísak Ásgeirsson. “The song dives into the psyche of a person so lonely and desperate for community that they are led into the jaws of extremism,” the duo says. “Something that is equally frightening and sad.”

The track immediately grips with its thumping rhythmic momentum. “Never wanna feel alone, nothing seems right,” haunting vocals let out amidst rumbling bass and clanging guitars. “Living life in total sense,” a ghostly presence exudes amidst the post-punk rhythmic pulsations. An eerie synth lingers into a multi-layered vocal immersion thereafter. Western-y, cinematic guitar twangs add beautifully during the “never wanna feel alone,” reprisal. “mercury in retrograde” is a compelling success from Baula.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
