Lolly Lee – “Great Crusade”

/

Shifting seamlessly from suave momentum into a rock-friendly rise, “Great Crusade” is an engaging new track from Lolly Lee, coming via the Birmingham, Alabama-based artist’s self-titled album. Rock and country influences enamor throughout the release, which was recorded at Admiral Bean Studio and features the collaborative work of longtime friend and Neil Young bandmate Anthony Crawford.

Pit-pattering percussion and rousing guitars venture into a gripping lyrical narrative. “Preacher says the battle will commence at noon,” Lee’s vocals add a charismatic momentum. Buzzing guitars complement the blade-sharpening and “start your engines,” vigor, exuding a soul-saving bluesy fervency into the “make it a great crusade,” punctuation. Mellow piano accompaniments linger in the ensuing verses, rising into another riveting title-touting hook. “Great Crusade” is a compelling piece of songwriting from Lolly Lee.
