Dawn Cadence – “holywater”

“holywater” is a riveting new track from Montreal-based artist Dawn Cadence, whose chilling pop sound conveys a darkening mystique. The track represents the opening track on the concept EP, sacré coeur, and was mixed and mastered by Kiri Stensby. “holywater” continues a steady ascent for the 22-year-old artist, who is performing at the iconic POP Montreal music festival this month.

An ominous swell of buzzing ambience of stark, emotive vocals craft a spacious intrigue from the start. “holywater” continues to grip with its strong lyrical hold — “I’m the who’ll take your heart out and slaughter,” the vocals let out amidst a haunting organ-laden chill. A ghostly ascension in pitch then emerges as the sparse instrumentation continues. Glistening harp-like movements coincide with various vocal layers thereafter, launching into a synth-forward glow with nocturnal pop immersion. The various vocal layers and synth introductions drive into a cathartic, satiating finale. “holywater” is a dark pop standout from Dawn Cadence.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
