RBLN – ‘A State of Mind’

/

A lushly atmospheric electronic pop appeal shines through A State of Mind, a recent album from RBLN, an artist based in Palm Springs, CA. Introspective lyricism and mellow vocals combine with a dynamic array of electronic tonal pursuits, from club-friendly house to nocturnal ambient intrigue.

The album’s title track opens with a spacey mystique, melding lush synth layers into hypnotic percussive ruminations. Dreamily subdued vocals and trickling acoustics take hold thereafter as the synths fade, re-emerging again amidst the acoustics at mid-point. Right away, the album showcases a strong grasp of atmosphere, a tendency that continues throughout. The subsequent “Everything You Know” succeeds with a brisker rhythmic envelopment, compelling alongside a confessional vocal drive and buzzing synth engrossment.

A State of Mind continues to impress through its enchanting half-hour. “Paradoxes: Choice + Freedom” sends chills in its cohesive interaction between chilly synth pads and club-friendly spurts of color, combined with debonair vocal adornments that continue the hypnotic entrancement. Closing track “SĂ©ance” is another stunner, also impressing in its balancing of heavy rhythmic pulsations with serene vocal and synth components. A State of Mind presents a fully captivating listening experience from RBLN.

“Paradoxes: Choice + Freedom” is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Electronic. Stream the playlist below:
