Denisse Takes – “Everyone is Welcome”

/

A serenely melodic charm pairs with a poignant reflectiveness on “Everyone is Welcome,” a recent track from Denisse Takes, a Dominican singer-songwriter, rapper, and producer based in Los Angeles. “Feel the fear, in my bones,” her vocals build amidst steady rhythms and lush synth haziness, traversing into a cathartic, jangling central refrain: “Wherever you go, I wanna go, I’m gonna meet you in Mexico.” Further inquiries — “is this the American dream?” — convey a modern lament on turbulent times, traversing thereafter into a buzzing synth-touched finale that fully satiates in its perseverant ardency.

“As an immigrant woman in the United States, I thought it was important to write a song reflective of the times,” she says. “It highlights the fear, sadness and guilt we’re all experiencing. I also wanted to provide a bit of hope and connection.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
