A breezily melodic yet emotively impactful sound enamors on “Do You,” the new single from Jackie Santos, an artist originally from Northwest Indiana and currently based in NYC. A delightfully soulful vocal presence persists throughout, both through the initially understated verses and more expansive multi-vocal layering. The lyrical perspectives contemplate on a failed relationship, a theme that continues throughout much of Santos’ upcoming album.
Tender guitar twangs and answer-seeking lyricism intertwine with compelling immersion. In the context of an unsuccessful relationship, the track’s lyrics reflect the emotional residue left behind — grappling with memories, unanswered questions, and the pain of feeling unseen. The song tenderly explores the inner turmoil of loving someone who didn’t love you back in the same way. “Did you even want me there?” Santos asks in one such example of this more one-sided endeavor, consuming in its overall soul-ready mystique, and arriving seamlessly into a pulsing retro-rock energy thereafter.
The excellent “Do You” was produced and co-written by Quinn Devlin, mixed by Sahil Ansari, and mastered by Nicolas Fournier.
Look for the second single from Santos’ debut album on June 6th, with the album following that up on July 4th.
