Signal Bleach – ‘Worthless Milk’

/

Strutting an invigorating sound that melds noise, industrial, and punk with a Death Grips-esque fervor, Worthless Milk is the newly released debut album from Los Angeles-based project Signal Bleach. The release compels in a relentless sense of tenacity — embracing shout-y vocal intensity and buzzing sounds from realms of rock and electronica. It represents a definitive success from the project, which formed in 2021 by long-time collaborators Andrew Hall, Casey Garcia, and David Teget.

Amongst the album’s many standouts, “Our Garden” is exemplary of the band’s knack for palpable structural momentum. Lyrical references to all-enveloping destruction maneuver within distorted bass and guitar, audibly depicting a free-falling sense of foreboding into the raucous vocal exhilaration that concludes. Another highlight is the album’s title track, featuring a dexterous percussive passion — which makes a strong impression even at its 30-second runtime, particularly in the arrival to the subsequent thump of “Post-Mate ULTRA (+ BOGO Edition).”

Worthless Milk thoroughly compels in its all-out ferocity — successfully embracing industrial rock and electronic cohesions, while strutting an enjoyably ominous thematic hold that derives from paranoia within a modern age of ample disinformation. Signal Bleach convey a powerful sound here, from start to finish.

“Our Garden” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
