Courtesy Car – “Emergency in a Sushi All You Can Eat”

/

London-based band Courtesy Car unveil a chilling folk enthrallment on new single “Emergency in a Sushi All You Can Eat.” Haunting vocals and trickling acoustics quickly establish a memorable soundscape, maneuvering with ghostly precision as the questioning “does it even matter to you?” refrain takes hold. Sounding like an inviting cross between Sufjan Stevens and Marissa Nadler, in terms of production, the track navigates that immersive refrain with simmering textural swells — subtle in their translucent-like additions, and intensifying gradually until a quick and effective fade-out into the night.

The track represents a riveting follow-up to the band’s previous single “Luxury Apartments,” which unveiled a more buzzing rock invigoration in between moments of dreamier intrigue — reminding of Wild Beasts, aesthetically, in the “is there something there?” similar questioning. Between these two recent successes the band shows a clear tendency for both folk-forward chilliness and cathartic rock satiation. We’re excited to hear what’s next from them.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Folk.
