Lyla George – “lovedry”

/

Dazzling in its melodic guitar work, lush woodwinds, and brass energy, “lovedry” is the second single from Lyla George. The New Orleans-based artist has co-written songs with Hans Williams, Phin and Olivia Barnes — and now showcases her riveting songcraft on a solo level, with an aesthetic inspired by Clairo and Andy Shauf.

“I would’ve loved you if you’d let me,” a heartfelt vocal presence lets out, as fluttering guitar strums and a hazy backing resonance drives into gorgeous brass and wordless vocal reflections. Alternations between smitten folk-laden sentiments and the brass-touched yearning follows, admitting “we could wake up dead tomorrow” with carpe-diem spirit. An affecting description of unrequited love pairs with standout melodic charm on “lovedry.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
