Hurricane Yellow – “Malleable”

/

Subdued folk and intriguing textures converge on “Malleable,” a compelling new single from Hurricane Yellow, the solo project of Miami-born singer-songwriter Oscar Sardinas. The project name aptly refers to the atmosphere’s hazy glow preceding a storm — a time fit for introspection before tumult — and the music reflects that, with an atmospheric entrancement.

Understated acoustics creak forward initially, quickly bolstered by fragmented doses of effects that flicker with effervescent allure; it resembles as if Oneohtrix Point Never embraced the folk and dreamy rock realms. The track attains a deeply layered immersion by mid-point, with click-clacking rhythms, twangy guitars, and glowing soundscape adornments. “Malleable” is a thorough success, stirring across both gentle spaciousness and bursts of fervent creativity.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
