Lauren Presley – “Straitjacket”

Lauren Presley‘s new track “Straitjacket” plays with fierce, empowering alt-pop allure, pairing her visceral songwriting with a dark, Halloween-timed visual that confronts gaslighting and the weaponization of the word “crazy” within a relationship. The Nashville-based artist — originally from Redwater, Texas — channels her signature emotional candor and commanding vocals into a narrative of reclaiming autonomy, reflected in the video’s stark imagery.

The music video presents a riveting narrative journey, first with an image of a straitjacket being placed on a woman amidst the sound of a thumping heart-beat. 24 hours earlier, an argument between partners is depicted as Presley’s compelling vocals emerge. “I just had my own opinion / You’re like oh no / It’s a threat to your position,” she sings amidst solemn piano, capturing an abusive, domineering relationship that causes ample pain.

A defiant, invigorating quality ensues as the energetic hook unveils — strutting a buzzing electro-touched ardor. “Cage me in, I’ll show you madness / So put me in a straitjacket,” Presley lets out, finding a sense of independence while acknowledging the other partner as insecure and toxic. “You’re happier when I’m in prison,” her vocals consume during a moody, spacious section — building up again with climactic vigor and into a stirring final minute. “Straitjacket” is a powerful pop success from Lauren Presley.
