Hazy synths and subdued guitar twangs craft a lushly absorbing charm on “Disruption,” a consuming new track from Chicago-based act Speed Therapy. “I’m so tired of twisting these knives,” the vocals let out during an enjoyable expanse, where both the synths and guitars ascend in emotional ferocity — glistening with an emotive nostalgia as the vocals ruminate that “the time is never right.”
The band’s blend of ’80s post-punk, ’90s alternative, and shoegaze makes for a lovely immersion, finding a comfortable balance between names like Smashing Pumpkins, Slowdive, and The Chameleons UK — with the Pumpkins especially reminiscent in the whirring guitar tones past the three-minute mark. “Disruption” is a replay-inducing success from Speed Therapy.
