The Mystery Divide – “Sound of Silence”

A moody, dreamy rock sound compels on “Sound of Silence,” a newly released track from The Mystery Divide, the New Jersey-based project of singer-songwriter Joseph Mendola. Jangly guitars and impassioned vocal layers coexist throughout, emerging from initial twangs that quickly shifts into a delectably nocturnal atmospheric allure. Artful doses of blaring synths appear intermittently, as the vocals admit that “you’re all I need” with heartrending sincerity.

The project’s initial name — The Blue Romantic — was inspired by the David Lynch film Blue Velvet, and that sense of cinematic mystique lingers on this standout track — hypnotic in its steady structural unveiling and emotively impactful in its mixture of vaguer introspections and clear “you’re all I need” immersion. Seamlessly fusing aspects of shoegaze and alt-rock, “Sound of Silence” is an excellent track from The Mystery Divide.
