A magnetic mixture of alt-pop approachability and post-punk moodiness, “Waiting Game” is a stylish new single from Aleesha Dibbs, representing the first single from her upcoming debut solo album, Big Mood. The Australian multi-instrumentalist caught our ears a few years ago with the eerily memorable “Comin For Me Now” — and this latest output is an even more enthralling, atmospheric success.
Dibbs describes the track “a nod to existentialism – life as a waiting game. It’s also exploring notions of waiting – what it means to wait and delay consequence, whether good or bad – sliding doors moments and how that’s manifested in my own life.” She continues: “The whole record, for the most part, is about fighting back.”
A compelling mixture of crunching guitar tones and twinkling synths enamor as Dibbs’ vocals enter, initially debonair and steady in its “sometimes I imagine you in towers…” contemplations. An ensuing, hooky rise is bolstered by heavier rhythms and a “writing’s on the wall” memorable refrain, continuing to progress into artful pop progressions and a hypnotic “this is all a waiting game” concluding vocal refrain. “Waiting Game” is another excellent creation from Aleesha Dibbs.
