“While the song calls out this type of rigid, heteronormative thought process, it also acknowledges that this thinking is unfortunately a necessary evil in our society, and those who feel/think differently must face this head on. The song’s theme is that it takes strength to identify as someone outside of the norm, and the frustration with that concept. Being different in these ways is often times not accepted, and the song encourages listeners to forge their own path. Feeling comfortable in one’s skin, and living your truth regardless of how challenging it may be to achieve that, is the game. Find your power, one that’s unique to you. “The bravest individuals are never typical.”
