Zach Schimpf – “Welcome to the Dystopia”

//

“Welcome to the Dystopia” is the first released track from Zach Schimpf’s forthcoming album, which is releasing song-by-song. The St. Louis-based musician first caught my ear in 2012 with “Movin’ Right Along” and continues to refine his atmospheric, consuming sound. “Welcome to the Dystopia” touts a lonesome, spacey synth illumination. A melancholic vocal section, growing from one to multiple layers, exudes a vibe reminiscent of The Knife. A cathedral-like organ descends upon the track after the one-minute mark, with the throbbing initial synth maintaining its grip. This is a contemplative, gradually evolving effort with ample atmospheric appeal.

“Welcome to the Dystopia” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2018’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Spacey Electronica.
