Sean Patton – “Gorilla Glue”

/

“Gorilla Glue” is a stirring new single from Sean Patton, an artist from British Columbia. Its folk-laden evolutions, from quaint guitars and twinkling keys, into escalating vocal sequences remind fondly of Beck’s heyday.

“It’s okay if you think that I’m stupid,” Patton begins the track. “I probably am.” The breezy keys and nonchalant vocal feeling are an apt fit for the lyrics, reflecting the feeling of sitting idly within a bustling world. “I don’t have a fucking clue,” he sings later during a rousing rise, with twangy guitar adornments adding well with atmospheric rock allure. With hints of Beck and Wilco, “Gorilla Glue” stands out with a stellar production and standout vein of songwriting.

“‘Gorilla Glue’ is a song of self-acceptance but also of not being able to keep up with the rapid pace of the modern world,” Patton says. “Full speed and little awareness of potential consequences.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2022’ Spotify playlist.
