Magenta Skycode – “We Will Be Warm”

Magenta Skycode - We Will Be Warm

Magenta Skycode, the Finnish songwriters of beautifully soaring pop, have finally followed up their 2010 album Relief with a new EP, We Will Be Warm. Its self-titled track is the type of quality to expect from Magenta Skycode, who often exist within a truly grandiose and intricately orchestrated environment. I recall gushing over their 2006 debut album, IIIII, all the way back when Obscure Sound first started, so it’s great to see these guys still putting out quality. “We Will Be Warm” begins with lush crystallized trickles and almost patriotic brass, before an infectious rhythm section kicks in. The chiming guitars aren’t far behind. When the vocals arrive at the two-minute mark, it’s of Magenta Skycode’s typical ilk — youthfully passionate, and aptly reflective of the group’s stirring orchestral achievements. “We Will Be Warm” may be more about atmosphere than in-your-face hooks, but it’s an excellent way to kick off a quality EP from a group that deserves much more recognition beyond their native Finland.

And to remind of the greatness of IIIII, here’s one of that album’s best cuts, “People”:
