Yolanda – “No Great Shakes”

//

What Vision is a newly released EP from Los Angeles-based Yolanda, a project headed by songwriter/producer Nicholas Abraham, an emergency room doctor and polymath. The track’s “time has gone,” hook is sweepingly beautiful, packed with vocal emotion and a touch of melancholy. It alternates between this and a suave, Cass McCombs-esque series of verses. Finding influence from a variety of acts ranging from Beach Boys to Deerhoof, the release shows a melodic rock sound, with a certain suaveness. The excellent production is amplified by some experienced talents, as it’s mixed by Chris Coady (Grizzly Bear, Beach House, TV On The Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and mastered by Greg Calbi (David Byrne, Tame Impala, Real Estate).
