cityGirl – “Remarkable”

“Remarkable” is a great entry point when digging into cityGirl’s material. The solo artist crafts an entrancing sound from his apartment, “with a couple of keyboards and some good software.” The bedroom-based lo-fi approach doesn’t sacrifice for melody and atmosphere, though. “Remarkable” stretches out with hypnotic allure from the beginning, with a lush bass line complementing similarly spaced-out vocals. Synth work just past the one-minute mark shifts the tide a bit, leading nicely into a summer-y guitar twang shortly thereafter. The second half features a combination of this guitar-based loop and pulsating synths, concluding in enjoyable form.

“City Girl” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2018’ Spotify playlist.
