Flashes – “Folki”

/

Channeling a mellow dream-pop sound reminiscent of The Radio Dept., English five-piece Flashes impress with serene sounds and a twilight-friendly glow on new track “Folki.” Representing the first of several new singles to be released this year from Flashes, “Folki” rides on hazy vocals, lush acoustics, and escalating synth flourishes. The bedroom-pop appeal remains enjoyably apparent as the track subtly expands, and the vocals assume a more emotive turn past 02:30. “Folki” is a very pleasurable listen from Flashes.

“Instead jamming something out at the chapel we took an old demo of Jim’s and using that as a springboard we pieced together and arranged the song as we recorded,” the band says of the track. “The end result is a long way from a ‘typical’ sounding Flashes song and the method is something we plan on using again.”

“Folki” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2019’ Spotify playlist.
