Released today, “Sunyata” is a hypnotic rocker from Liverpool act NULLA. They refer to their stylistic output as “Juicy Junk” — a “sound that encapsulates Jodorowsky, Lao Tzu, the internet.” Specifically, the group infuses psychedelic rock, jazz, and funk into a sound brimming with easy-flowing melodies and bustling rhythms. Their live performances incorporates expressive stage-wear alongside this consuming, fairly nostalgic sound. “Sunyata” is a debut single that arrives after a year of live gigs and resulting acclaim, serving as a solid success. I’m particularly fond of the guitar burst at 01:31, which is excellently produced and nostalgic in a way that reminds me of ’90s Brit-rock. “Sunyata” is an extremely promising debut.

“Sunyata” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Indie Rock.
