Slideshow – “Midnight Language”

//

Based out of the bustling Austin, TX music scene, Slideshow produce a memorable jangly, post-punk sound — in the realm of Wild Nothing and Beach Fossils. Ahead of their debut EP, Midnight Language, releasing later this month, the band put out the album’s eponymous single. “Midnight Language” leads right away with shimmering, jangly guitars, shortly thereafter accompanied by an understated, yearning vocal presence. The nifty guitar-led hook at the 30-second mark succeeds in showing some variation upfront, a production choice succeeding similarly at 01:40 upon the rhythm section’s prominence during the bridge. “Midnight Language” is a hypnotic, enjoyable gem from Slideshow, off an EP I’m definitely anticipating.

“Midnight Language” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Shoegaze / Post-Punk / Dream-Pop.
