Drowsy – “Olivine”

/

“Olivine” is an impressive track from Los Angeles-based band Drowsy. Crafting a sound with elements of shoegaze, dream-pop, and metal, Drowsy show fantastic eclectic reach in terms of tone and atmosphere throughout “Olivine.” Shimmering guitars emerge just past the one-minute mark, cementing a murkily consuming vein of dreamy shoegaze with textural beauty. The “oh, Olivine,” section a minute later reminds fondly of Wild Nothing, meshing emotive pleas with nocturnal allure. A wave of blistering guitar distortion at 03:13 kick-starts a section full of beautiful noise, with lingering feedback gently fading as this stellar track concludes. “Olivine” excites me for whatever’s next from Drowsy.

“Olivine” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Shoegaze / Post-Punk / Dream-Pop.
