Lo Haze – “Honeycomb”

/

“Honeycomb” is a beautifully textured rocker from Lo Haze, the trio of Los Angeles natives Amanda Erwin (drums), Daniella Lollie (bass and backing vocals), and Stephanie Guerra (lead vocals and rhythm guitars). Per the band, the track aims to “combine Beach Boys-esque harmonies with an eerie, surf rock vibe.” These lovely harmonies are found throughout, over a surf-y rhythm section and swaying guitar tones. The guitars are more enveloping than most surf-rock, employing a more shoegaze-y/dream-pop direction in tone and ferocity. The elongated vocal delivery throughout the verses plays well in alignment, as does the overlapping of dual vocal layers during the bridge. “Honeycomb” puts Lo Haze firmly on my radar.

“Honeycomb” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
