TARA – “Oceans”

Releasing ahead of TARA’s debut LP later this year, “Oceans” is a beautiful single that expands from a dreamy simmer into shoegaze-y textural bliss. Previously featured tracks like “Second Guess” and “Wander” showed the Brooklyn-based band in full command of their shoegaze-laden, dream-pop aesthetic. ‘Oceans” certainly continues that confidence, in newly invigorated form. The track succeeds in the contrasts between lusher bass-fronted movements and those with waves of guitars; the vocals excel regardless of circumstance. The vocal emergence approaching 03:30 works with especially momentous appeal alongside the driving percussion, with shades of Slowdive emerging in the subsequent bass line. “Oceans” is another success from TARA, via a forthcoming debut LP showing ample promise.

“Oceans” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Shoegaze.
