Mark Henes – “What Could You Be Right Now?”

/

“What Could You Be Right Now?” is a newly released track from Mark Henes, the Nashville-based artist who impressed previously with “Ghost Train” and “Arm Full of Roses.” “What Could You Be Right Now?” rides on reverberating guitar twangs and a melodic vocal refrain: “What could you be right now? — home with me, home you could be happy.” Henes’ vocal lead exudes a warming, confident tone throughout, with the lyrical sentiments echoing a yearning for normalcy and embrace, a relatable sentiment in these times. Whereas “Arm Full of Roses” showed a more country-forward love song, “What Could You Be Right Now?” shows a twangier, alt-rock fixation. These prior tracks show an eclectic songwriter with accessible, melodic charm, and this particular stylistic pursuit is one that certainly succeeds.

“What Could You Be Right Now?” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2020’ Spotify playlist.
