Vanden Dool – “Rust on the Train Bridge”

/

“Rust on the Train Bridge” is an engaging, pleasantly evolving track from Canadian act Vanden Dool. Percussive click-clacking and exotic background murmurs form an interesting opening aesthetic. Soaring vocals appear past the one-minute mark, quickly assuming a perkier, pop-forward presence, reminding me quite fondly of the band The New Pornographers, as well as The Arcade Fire. The playful ’80s-friendly percussion around 01:35 onward – “the city bleeds like you,” – is especially catchy. Infectious, shimmering qualities throughout make “Rust on the Train Bridge” a winning release from Vanden Dool.
