Favours – “Slip Away”

//

Already off to an excellent year with the tracks “Lux Luv” and “Memories,” Toronto-based duo Favours dazzle again with the track “Slip Away.” Soaring, emotive vocals lead into a “time won’t slip away,” hook early, reminding of the act’s tendency for mysteriously invigorating soundscapes. Murky, hypnotic vocals delight throughout an arsenal of guitars and synths — tonally reminiscent of John Maus and Ariel Pink. A thick, distorted bounciness around 02:30 is joined enjoyably by atmospheric guitar fragments, crafting an unsettling though fully intriguing soundscape leading back into the title-referencing vocal hook. “Slip Away” is an enjoyable success from Favours.

“Slip Away” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
