Midnight Prisms – “Picture of the End”

/

A lush choice for nighttime escapades, “Picture of the End” is an atmospheric dream-pop track from Midnight Prisms. Fondly reminiscent of Nite Jewel aesthetically, the project shows a gripping blend of synth-pop, experimental, and lo-fi sounds. “Picture of the End” sees a playful bass line and enveloping synth backing engage amidst an emotive vocal lead, which shines especially during the “never stop loving you,” heartbreak at the three-minute mark. Here, Chromatics is also a fun point of reference. A woodwind touch follows later, adding further to the track’s fantastic soundscape. “Picture of the End” is particularly easy to get lost within. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next from Midnight Prisms.

“Picture of the End” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Dream-Pop.
