Premiere: Gibberish – “i dreamed u”

//

A track out today from psych-friendly duo Gibberish, “i dreamed u” consumes with its hypnotic, lush pull. Derek and Lorie Bromley mesh the latter’s serene vocals with thumping bass, shimmering keys, and a murky aesthetic elegance — like an ethereal feather floating through a dark jungle. Points of gradual emergence, like the trickling keys at the two-minute mark, add further textural allure. “i dreamed u” is the type of track that grips immediately with its soundscape, while the melody gradually takes effect with hypnotizing appeal.

“We wrote “i dreamed u” on a day where we were just cutting loose and a little delirious from the quarantine,” Derek says of the track’s formative processes. “We had been listening to Tom Tom Club earlier that day while trying to throw blueberries in each other’s mouths, but mostly missing. I started goofing around with a silly, kiddish drum machine loop and Lorie immediately wanted to sing. In the time it took me to set up a mic for her she already had lyrics and a melody ready to go.”

“”i dreamed u” is about trusting the threads that tie us together and following those currents through the chaos.”

“I Dreamed U” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2020’ Spotify playlist.
