Nate Wey – “Movie Ending”

/

A haunting, dreamy track fit for the Roadhouse on Twin Peaks, “Movie Ending” is an atmospheric stirrer from Nate Wey, a Portland(OR)-based musician and TV sound mixer. Whispery vocals and a solemn guitar guide the initial vibe. A ghostly backing vocal emerges with delightful precision. The subsequent synth-laden shimmer adds beautifully to the soundscape, the production reminding fondly of Damien Jurado. The yearning vocals — “I used to stare at your hands,” — plays aptly amidst the forlorn soundscape presented, culminating in a flourishing, excellent conclusion. “Movie Ending” lingers in my head with its cinematic feeling and emotive pull.

Wey (who was also the vocalist in previously featured act Souvenir Driver) describes the track as “a loungy dream pop song about break ups, in the spirit of a David Lynch film.”

“Movie Ending” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of June 2021’ Spotify playlist.
