“18.” is a recent track from GELEXAIDA, the project of Chicago-based singer/songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Genevieve Skittone. Sleepy keys concoct an inviting introduction, with Skittone’s ensuing vocals emitting a mysteriously contemplative quality. The spacey synth tones gradually expand alongside Skittone’s escalating vocals — “disappointing everyone in my life.” The drip-drop quality of the synths combine with these melancholic lyrics for a fully resonating effect. The shift to lyrical self-discovery coincides with a nocturnal array of new synths, showcasing the track’s engaging production relative to the synth-laden atmosphere. “18.” is exemplary of the rising artist’s songcraft and vocal work.
