“People That You Know” is the latest track from Lunavela, the project of New Zealand-based singer/songwriter Steve Mathieson (formerly frontman of Collapsing Cities). Following up January’s “Pandering Meandering,” Mathieson again shows a melodic sound with elements of jangle-pop and rock. Fluttering guitar strums and shimmering keys complement steady vocals to start, culminating in a lovely chorus with dual-vocal appeal amidst the guitar/pianointerplay. Twangier guitar fixtures and a heavier bass line excel past the three-minute mark, driving to a darker yet effective conclusion.
